Known mostly for Barnes Air Force Base now, Westfield is also known as the “Whip City” as it was the center of the buggy whip industry. With over 40,000 residents Westfield was originally the westernmost settlement in the Massachusetts Colony.
Today precision manufacturing, aeronautics and higher education are among it’s top industries. In addition to the seven elementary schools, two middle schools and two high schools including one technical high school, Westfield is home to Westfield State University.
Westfield also boasts beautiful public parks including Stanley Park and Amelia Park and the popular 114 mile long hiking trail, Metacomet-Monadnock runs through the Whip City.
